Racing President Tom Jefferson at Easter Egg Roll, 2019

In this photograph, taken by Matthew D'Agostino for the White House Historical Association, Racing President Thomas Jefferson, one of the mascots of the Washington Nationals baseball team, greets young guests at the White House Easter Egg Roll. Hosted by First Lady Melania Trump, the event was held on April 22, 2019. Since their debut in 2006, during the fourth inning of Washington Nationals home games, "Tom Jefferson" races against other mascot caricatures of prominent United States presidents, including "George Washington," "Abraham Lincoln," and "Theodore Roosevelt." Other costumed characters present at the 2019 Egg Roll included the PAAS Easter Bunny, classic picture book character "The Cat in the Hat," and tennis ball mascots.
